Understand fire classes
Fires are grouped by fuel: ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, gases, electrical equipment and cooking oils. Each extinguisher type is rated for specific classes, and using the wrong one can make a fire worse.
Match extinguishers to rooms
Kitchens benefit from wet chemical units and fire blankets. Server rooms and offices with electronics need CO₂. Warehouses and general areas are typically covered by foam or multi-purpose powder.
Placement and maintenance
Mount extinguishers near exits at a visible height, check gauges monthly and book a professional service every year. Keep a simple log — inspectors will ask for it.
